There were some brilliant performances during the night. Blake Shelton opened the show with a performance of Footloose and was joined on stage by the singer of the original, Kenny Loggins. The show also welcomed Lionel Richie who sang a medley of his biggest hits while dueting with some of country music's biggest stars. Faith Hill returned to the CMAs after five years and sang her new song Come Home, a beautiful song that is sure to do well for her.

The winners from the night are all well deserved. I'm happy to see You And Tequila by Matraca Berg and Deana Carter scoop at least one of the awards it was nominated for. I would however have loved to have seen Martina McBride take home Female Vocalist Of The Year and Blake Shelton take home Entertainer Of The Year, both of whom have had brilliant years. I am however very happy to see that The Band Perry walked away with three well deserved awards.

For most of the assembled stars it was not the first time they had won their award. Sugarland, for instance have now won Vocal Duo for five consecutive years while Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton all take home their trophies for the second consecutive year. Jason Aldean's two awardswere however his first two CMAs. The Band Perry's three CMAs were also their first, making the night even sweeter for them.

Sugarland dedicated their Vocal Duo award to their fans in Indianapolis after their stage collapsed there earlier this year, killing seven people and injuring more than fourty. Sugarland also took the time backstage to announce that they will be taking a break. Speaking to reporters, Jennifer Nettles said "We are taking a few months just to chill and relax and sleep in our own beds and contemplate how we want to approach what's next". I hope Sugarland make use of the break and come back stronger than ever.

All in all it was a great night. Everyone looked amazing and there were some brilliant performances and tributes to country music's biggest stars.
