ACM Award nominations 2015

The nominations for the 2015 ACM Awards were announced on Friday. Tara from www.thedailycountry.com and I have joined together once again to bring you our thoughts on who will win and who should win. Read on below for all the details.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR
Jason Aldean
Garth Brooks
Luke Bryan
Miranda Lambert
Florida Georgia Line

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: The man who wasn’t even nominated…..Eric Church. If you have ever been to one of his live shows, you know why. And if you haven’t…..get yourself to church and find out.
Who Will Win: Since Garth is nominated, I presume he has it in the bag.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win and Who Will Win: Garth Brooks' reputation proceeds him in this. Whilst he hasn't released new music regularly before his "Man Against Machine" album, Garth is still a huge name and has a lot of respect. This is a fan voted award so always hard to be 100% sure but Garth has a huge fan base and had a very successful new album and tour.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Jason Aldean
Dierks Bentley
Luke Bryan
Eric Church
Brad Paisley
Blake Shelton

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: That gravelly voiced crooner who does love songs and party songs with ease: Dierks.
Who Will Win: I do not feel that last year’s winner here, Aldean, is a strong enough contender for this award this time around. Although I would love to see Dierks, Eric or even Brad win, I think it is highly probable that Blake take the trophy.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: It'd be great to see Brad win this. He's a great entertainer and is often overlooked. I'd be just as happy to see Dierks win, "Riser" is a really strong album and again, he is often overlooked.
Who Will Win: I honestly think Dierks will win this year. Blake and Jason have won over the past few years but the ACMs haven't given Blake the award the amount of times the CMAs have, with Jason surprisingly winning it last year. "Riser" has been very successful and Dierks seems to have had a lot of positive response from fans and the industry this year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Brandy Clark
Miranda Lambert
Martina McBride
Kacey Musgraves
Carrie Underwood

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Miranda
Who Will Win: Honestly, no one else had as huge of a year, regardless of how vocally strong they are. Miranda will take it home.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win and Who Will Win: Well Miranda has won this for the past four years and I don't see anything changing this year. She is riding high on the success of "Platinum" and also has her new, popular tour.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR
Brothers Osborne
Dan + Shay
Florida Georgia Line
Maddie & Tae
The Swon Brothers

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Am I a cold, heartless person if I say I don’t really care? None of them are my cup of tea.
Who Will Win: Going to give it to the ladies this year, Maddie &Tae. They had a breakout single that doesn’t seem like it will be a one off.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win and Who Will Win: Humm certainly an interesting category, quite a few new additions here! This is going to be a tough one to call, each artist is popular in their own way. It would be nice to see Dan & Shay win this. This is between Florida Georgia Line and Maddie & Tae and I think Florida Georgia Line get it this year. Next year may be a very different story.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR
Lady Antbellum
Little Big Town
Rascal Flatts
The Band Perry
Zac Brown Band

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Gonna go with Little Big Town. Painkiller and their harmonies are…..killer.
Who Will Win: Little Big Town for the reasons above.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win and Who Will Win: Got to be Little Big Town. The Band Perry took the win last year but haven't had a big enough year to be in contention in my opinion. Lady Antebellum's "747" did well for them but "Pain Killer" has been a very big album for Little Big Town, even if it hasn't had the same chart success as others. Rascal Flatts and Zac Brown Band are unlikely to win and like I say,The Band Perry haven't had a big enough year in my opinion. Lady A are the closest competition Little Big Town have this year but I think the award goes to LBT.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR
Brett Eldredge
Tyler Farr
Sam Hunt
Kip Moore
Thomas Rhett
Chase Rice
Cole Swindell
Dan + Shay

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Kip Moore. Even though he is certainly not “new” he has consistently put out quality music and, in my opinion, is the most “country” of the group.
Who Will Win: Well, the final three are determined by fan voting, so that comes down to who has the strongest fan base. The final three I would like to see personally are Kip, Brett and Cole. I think this one is Kip’s to lose.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: After his win in this category at last year's CMA Awards  (and his brilliant debut album) Brett Eldredge deserves to win this year. I would be just as happy with a Kip Moore win.
Who Will Win: This probably goes to Sam Hunt. He seems to have been incredibly popular and his debut album did very well. As one of the only fan voted categories this is going to be interesting.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Old Boots, New Dirt - Jason Aldean
Pain Killer - Little Big Town
Platinum - Miranda Lambert
Riser - Dierks Bentley
The Outsiders - Eric Church

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Eric Church for taking chances and putting out a varied record that may not be to everyone’s liking, but it was artistic and brave, pushing boundaries and eardrums.
Who Will Win: Miranda. The female will trump the boys. It definitely was not my favorite Miranda record, but she seems to be on a roll and we all know awards are political.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: "Pain Killer" all the way in my opinion. Miranda and Dierks are probably the automatic front runners for this but Little Big Town have had a huge year and "Pain Killer" is a brilliant album. It's received positive responses from fans, press and the group's contemporaries alike and has a great sound that shows the group's development whilst still staying true to themselves.
Who Will Win: This award has traditionally gone to Miranda with every one of her recent albums so I can unfortunately see this being the same here. I'll be absolutely thrilled if Little Big Town win (see above) but Miranda's album has been incredibly popular and has spawned a lot of successful tracks. Admittedly I would honestly think it is the best album Miranda has released in a while.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SINGLE OF THE YEAR
American Kids - Kenny Chesney
Automatic - Miranda Lambert
Dirt - Florida Georgia Line
Drunk On A Plane - Dierks Bentley
I Don't Dance - Lee Brice

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Dierks and “Drunk On A Plane” because underneath the party feel of the song is a guy who is hurting after being dumped. But PS….why isn’t Eric Church nominated in this category????
Who Will Win: The nostalgic feel of Automatic will overtake the FGL boys’ “Dirt.”

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: I'd love "American Kids" to win this, Kenny's new album is great and this is such an upbeat, catchy track that will inevitably see people singing along any time it is heard or performed.
Who Will Win: Mostly likely going to be "Automatic". Miranda has won many single/song of the year awards and "Automatic" is a great single, tapping into that reminiscent feeling that is so popular in the genre at the moment.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SONG OF THE YEAR
American Kids - Kenny Chesney
Automatic - Miranda Lambert
Drink A Beer - Luke Bryan
Follow Your Arrow - Kacey Musgraves
Give Me Back My Hometown - Eric Church
I Hold On - Dierks Bentley

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: As much of a fan as I am of Mr. Church, Dierks Bentley better walk away with this one. “I Hold On” is an autobiographical song, but more than that it is an emotional, relatable anthem that reminds us to hold close to things that really matter in our lives.
Who Will Win: Tough, tough category for sure. But I’m going to say Miranda again.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Hard to pick between "I Hold On" and "Drink A Beer" in my opinion. I'd love "Drink A Beer" to win, it's such a lovely track and Luke delivers a really emotional, heartfelt vocal every time he performs it.
Who Will Win: The ACMs seems to often award song and single of the year to the same songs so that points towards "American Kids" or "Automatic" winning this. It would be great to see "American Kids" win but song of the year normally goes to a more lyrical, story based track so I would say "Automatic"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR
Rodney Clawson
Ashley Gorley
Luke Laird
Josh Osborne
Chris Tompkins

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: I think the writers nominated here should have their song nominated in the Song of the Year category and/or vice versa (Hello, where’s Brett James?!) That said, I would like to see Luke Laird win for co-penning both Chesney’s “American Kids” as well as personal favorite “Give Me Back My Hometown.
Who Will Win: All of the songwriters nominated here are extremely talented, without a doubt. I believe the voters will go with Luke Laird.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win and Who Will Win: This goes to Luke Laird. When the nominees were first announced there was a huge positive response towards Luke's nomination and he has written some very successful tracks including Eric Church's newest number one "Talladega".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VIDEO OF THE YEAR
American Kids - Kenny Chesney
Cop Car - Keith Urban
Drunk On A Plane - Dierks Bentley
I'm Not Gonna Miss You - Glen Campbell
Somethin' Bad - Miranda Lambert feat. Carrie Underwood

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Glen Campbell
Who Will Win: Don’t think anyone will argue here--Glen Campbell

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: I love that Glen Campbell is nominated for this, it would be really sweet to see him win it.
Who Will Win: Most likely "Drunk On A Plane" wins. It won the same award at last year's CMA Awards and has been incredibly popular with fans and industry alike.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VOCAL EVENT OF THE YEAR
Lonely Tonight - Blake Shelton feat. Ashley Monroe
Meanwhile Back At Mama's - Tim McGraw feat. Faith Hill
Somethin' Bad - Miranda Lambert feat. Carrie Underwood
The South  - Cadillac Three feat. Florida Georgia Line, Dierks Bentley and Mike Eli
This Is How We Roll - Florida Georgia Line feat. Luke Bryan

TARA'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: Tim and Faith. That song really brought back the Tim I personally like and just touched an emotional nerve.
Who Will Win: I think it is a 3 way race between Blake/Ashley, Carrie/Miranda and Tim/Faith. Carrie and Miranda’s song did not chart as well as expected and Blake and Ashley’s song is charting well. I think Tim and Faith’s song has a beautiful story and sentiment and is lovingly sung by both.

KASEY'S THOUGHTS
Who Should Win: "Meanwhile Back At Mama's" is a lovely song by two of country music's biggest stars. It deserves to win the award for this, great track rounded out by a really lovely video.
Who Will Win: Most likely "Somethin' Bad". Miranda and Carrie have a huge, dedicated fan base between the two of them and whilst the track is older than some of the other nominees it has been very popular.
