Jake Owen - 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night'

Jake Owen is an American Country singer. He is probably best known for his number one hit Barefoot Blue Jean Night which was the title track of his third album. He has also released Startin' With Me in 2005 and Easy Does It in 2009 and is set to release an EP entitled Endless Summer on 25th September this year. Ironically Jake Owen originally played golf professionally however a wakeboarding accident meant he couldn't continue with the sport. He learned to play the guitar during his recovery and soon started writing his own material.

He has toured and recorded with a lot of well known country singers throughout the past few years. He recorded a cover of Life In A Northern Town alongside Little Big Town and Sugarland and was a guest artist on Back from Colt Ford's new album Declaration Of Independence.

It is easy to see why Jake's title track from Barefoot Blue Jean Night has charted so well. It is a brilliant song and encourages a party atmosphere. With the use of the backing vocals and well thought out instrumentalisation Jake crafts a brilliant summer anthem.

Another strong song from the album is Keepin' It Country. The song is similar to Barefoot Blue Jean Night but is different enough to keep listeners entertained. It is a very lyrically focussed song and in my opinion should definitely be listened to closely at least once.

I couldn't mention Jake Owen without mentioning The Journey Of Your Life from his newest album. It is a lovely song and the slower speed really suits Jake's voice. It is definitely worth listening to as the song adds to the album very well and it is nice to hear Jake sing a slower song.

My least favourite song from his latest album is Nobody Feelin' No Pain. At 4:56 it is the longest song on the album and unfortunately I feel that it goes on too long. The song breaks down in the middle into a short speaking monologue from Jake. This would work well for a gig however I don't really feel it works on an album.

Jake is also set to headline "CMT On Tour 2012" alongside Florida Georgia Line and Love And Theft. He has already built a strong fan base through his many tours, including many fans within the UK. I'm sure he would have a very successful tour if he was to come to the UK and I hope he does soon! Five stars definitely.
