Ten favourite summer songs
Tara and I decided that now we're
firmly in Summer it was time to collate our ten favourite summer songs. I've
happily managed to coincide writing this with a really warm day so I'm feeling
very summery! Whether you agree with us or disagree we'd love to hear your
thoughts, it was very hard to only pick five tracks from all the great summer
tracks on offer.

KASEY
Sunshine & Whiskey - Frankie
Ballard
One of the first songs I'd heard
of Frankie's, Sunshine & Whiskey has
an incredible catchy melody that makes you want to turn it up loud and sing
along. Frankie's distinctive tone is helped by the great melody, vocals, melody
and lyrics all come together to deliver a great track.
Barefoot Blue Jean Night - Jake
Owen
This is one of those tracks where
the melody, production and lyrics come together to make a truly summery track.
As with Sunshine & Whiskey, every
time I hear this it makes me want to turn it up loud. Barefoot Blue Jean Night airs unashamedly on the 'party song' side
of summer songs and it does it very well.
Give It Away - Michaelis
The opening track of Michaelis'
debut album, Give It Away is
instantly reminiscent of the type of track listeners would have heard on
Kristian Bush's album. The sisters deliver an unexpected, yet very impressive
track that, whilst not full of summer time lyrics, is perfect for listening to
during a lazy sunny evening.
My Somebody - Gloriana
Sneaking onto the end of
Gloriana's newest album, My Somebody
is very different to what you'll find on the rest of the album. With a relaxed,
reggae influenced production makes for completely comfortable listening.
A Lot To Learn About Livin' -
Easton Corbin
I love the sentiment in this
track, an interesting (and heartfelt) look at a summer vacation. Paired with the
soft production and the story the lyrics tell (lines like "our biggest problem's deciding what fish we're having, does it go
with Tequila or Beer" are brilliant) A Lot To Learn About Livin' deserves to have a place on anybody's
summer playlist.

TARA
Water - Brad Paisley
I have an incredibly soft spot
for Brad and this song always reminds me of summer. Really, on a beautiful
summer day what more do you need other than friends, a pair of shades, ice cold
beer (or in my case Jack Daniels) and somewhere to sit near the water. Plus it
has Brad’s killer guitar skills and his signature humour.
Good One Comin’ On – Blackberry
Smoke
These guys are Southern rock
perfection. A song for the end of a long work week or the summer months; skinny
dipping, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Patron and Shiner beer mentions….what more do you
need?
Love.This.Song. (and band) I
guarantee you if you don’t know them, after this song you will dive into their
music. One of the best live bands I have ever seen. Real music, talent and
energy. Their new self- titled record releases in September.
Summer of ’75 – Chris Knight
Definitely not your typical
summer song, but a lovely story song from one of America’s best songwriters.
Nothing But Summer – Dallas Smith
Jumped Right In, the first country record from Canadian Dallas
Smith is different from what U.S. audiences have heard from him (“Wasting Gas,”
“Tippin’ Point”). It contains twelve songs including this country rocker which
pairs summer and romance.“Get on your mark,
set/Baby get your feet wet/Dive in, head first let it take you under.”
