Texan Abby Anderson released her debut EP on 7th September last year. The 21 year old co-wrote all bar one of the songs on the EP, penultimate number Dance Away My Broken Heart having been written by some very recognisable names.

The lead single from the EP is the Anderson/Kerr/Douglas written Make Him Wait, a incredibly emotive song that was born from lessons Abby's father taught her about dating. Abby delivers a heartfelt, mature vocal that fits seamlessly with the production. Effortlessly holding the listener's attention throughout (and throughout multiple re-plays!), the ebb and flow of the production offers the basis for Abby's vocal and the lyrics themselves to really shine. A very impressive track that I really hope becomes a successful single.

Penultimate track Dance Away My Broken Heart has a completely different feel but is also compelling. Dripping with attitude, the track has considerably more of a country-pop feel but I imagine it will still be very popular. A very catchy song, I'm sure Dance Away My Broken Heart will be very popular live in particular. The break-down at around 2:40 in is very effective, it would just be great to hear even more of the saxophonist!

Unfortunately there are a couple of tracks that aren't as strong. Naked Truth for instance ultimately feels a little messy. The country-pop influence is still evident however the vocal feels a little strained and the production is a little overpowering. It's a shame but Naked Truth feels like a song that's unlikely to really draw listeners in. The same could also be said of This Feeling unfortunately.

Generally, whilst there are some songs that seem to fall a little short, this still feels like a promising EP from a very promising artist. I'd certainly like to see more songs like Make Him Wait from Abby, it will be very interesting to see how she progresses with future releases!
