CMA Awards 2019 - predictions

It's that time of year again! We are fast approaching this year's CMA Awards and it's time for me to write down my thoughts. So read on, let me know what you think and don't forget to tune in on 13th November!

Entertainer of the Year
Garth Brooks
Eric Church
Chris Stapleton
Carrie Underwood
Keith Urban

Winner: Garth Brooks. This is going to be a tough one. I'd absolutely love Keith to win this again but it seems like he has had a relatively quiet year. There has long been a call from fans for Carrie to win this but the lack of change within the overall nominations makes me think this is unlikely. Eric or Keith would be great but this surely goes to Garth.

Album of the Year
Center Point Road, Thomas Rhett
Cry Pretty, Carrie Underwood
Dan + Shay, Dan + Shay
Desperate Man, Eric Church
Girl, Maren Morris

Winner: Cry Pretty, Carrie Underwood. Carrie's albums usually do quite well with CMA voters and Cry Pretty seems to be the logical choice to win this. It would be lovely to see Desperate Man win but Eric often seems to be an underdog in awards so I'm unfortunately not sure he wins this. Carrie's album is very strong and has done well for her already.

Single of the Year
Burning Man, Dierks Bentley feat. Brothers Osborne
Girl, Maren Morris
God's Country, Blake Shelton
Millionaire, Chris Stapleton
Speechless, Dan + Shay

Winner: Girl, Maren Morris. A very popular, relatable track. Blake and Dan + Shay are also possible winners here but Girl has been widely embraced and is a deserved winner.

Song of the Year
Beautiful Crazy, recorded by Luke Combs
Girl, recorded by Maren Morris
God's Country, recorded by Blake Shelton
Rainbow, recorded by Kacey Musgraves
Tequila, recorded by Dan + Shay

Winner: Tequila, recorded by Dan + Shay. A huge song for the duo, Tequila makes a logical Song of the Year choice. A very emotive track and distinctly lyrical, the track has been very popular.

Male Vocalist of the Year
Dierks Bentley
Luke Combs
Thomas Rhett
Chris Stapleton
Keith Urban

Winner: Luke Combs. Truthfully if Luke wins it will probably be seen as quite an upset but it does feel as though It is a strong possibility.

Female Vocalist of the Year
Kelsea Ballerini
Miranda Lambert
Maren Morris
Kacey Musgraves
Carrie Underwood

Winner: Carrie Underwood. As usual this is likely to end up being between Carrie and Miranda. It could go either way ultimately but overall I'd say this is Carrie's.

New Artist of the Year
Cody Johnson
Ashley McBryde
Carly Pearce
Morgan Wallen

Winner: Midland. Whilst this comes down to Ashley McBryde or Midland in my opinion (and it could be very close!), there's seem to have been more of a continuous buzz surrounding Midland and they feel a little more established. They do seem to divide opinion though which could count against them.

Vocal Duo of the Year
Brooks & Dunn
Brothers Osborne
Dan + Shay
Florida Georgia Line
Maddie & Tae

Winner: Dan + Shay. After a triumphant return it's a shame to not see Sugarland on this list but out of the five options listed here Dan + Shay seem the most likely. They've had a very strong year and have certainly eclipsed the other nominees in my opinion.

Vocal Group of the Year
Lady Antebellum
Little Big Town
Old Dominion
Zac Brown Band

Winner: Little Big Town. I'm not convinced Little Big Town have truly had that big a year but they've certainly had a better year than the other nominees. The only challenge I can see here is, interestingly, Midland. Lady Antebellum are likely to be tough competition next year with a new record deal and album imminent but this is Little Big Town's to lose this year.

Music Video of the Year
Burning Man, Dierks Bentley feat. Brothers Osborne
Girl, Maren Morris
God's Country, Blake Shelton
Rainbow, Kacey Musgraves
Some Of It, Eric Church

Winner: God's Country, Blake Shelton. I haven't connected 100% with any of the videos this year but Blake's has the most compelling feeling to it. Another possible contender is the female empowerment of Girl but the expansive God's Country wins this in my opinion.

Musical Event of the Year
All My Favourite People, Maren Morris feat. Brothers Osborne
Brand New Man, Brooks & Dunn with Luke Combs
Dive Bar, Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton
Old Town Road (Remix), Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus
What Happens In A Small Town, Brantley Gilbert and Lindsay Ell

Winner: Old Town Road (Remix), Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. This is ironically probably the worst song in this category in my opinion but it's been hugely successful for both artists. I'd love to see underdogs Brantley and Lindsay win this but I think it's unlikely to be anyone else, expect maybe Dive Bar.

Musician of the Year
Jenee Fleenor
Paul Franklin
Mac McAnally
Ilya Toshinsky
Derek Wells

Winner: Mac McAnally. I'd love Jenee to win this but I'm not sure that voters are going to commit to a lesser known musician. Mac has won a multitude of years and, whilst he undoubtedly deserves it, I'd love to be proven wrong and for Jenee to win.
